Horticulture Apprentice

Trees for Cities is an independent, international charity that seeks to transform the urbanenvironment by involving local people in community tree planting, training and landscaping projects across the UK and internationally.

Trees for Cities has been awarded a grant by the Heritage Lottery Fund under the Skills for the Future programme to provide traineeships in work-based horticulture. The aim is to increase the number of skilled gardeners available to the heritage horticulture sector with a particular focus on increasing the number of female horticulturalists who are currently under represented. Three positions are available working with Trees for Cities to deliver our tree planting and landscaping improvement work on sites across London. As a Horticulture Apprentice you will be working under staff supervision with a group of Level 1 trainees. You will be working three days a week on horticultural activities either based at our training centre in Ruskin Park, Lambeth, or out on project sites.

The fourth day of the week will be spent together with our horticultural trainer learning the units towards the City & Guilds diploma in work-based Horticulture. Essential for this role are a passion for working in horticulture, flexibility to deal with a diverse working day, a strong sense of initiative and responsibility, and the ability to work with people from all social backgrounds. Some experience in horticulture or working outside is desirable along with a strong belief in the work of Trees for Cities.
