Trees for Cities began its life as a series of parties and we're very proud of our partying tradition. It's easy to turn your event into a fundraising event. And we can give you lots of ideas as well as advice on the practicalities and legal stuff.

Here are some fundraising ideas to get you started:

• Blag a bottle of champagne from the local off licence and raffle it off.
• Run a fun-sweepstake on what time your famously late mate will turn up, with a fantastic prize for the winner.
• Charge your friends to vote for your fancy dress costume and then wear it with pride.
• Instead of charging an entry fee ask your guests to make a donation.
• Bring a pile of clothes to swap and then make a donation for every item you take home.

It's amazing what you can get for free if your event is for charity. Be bold and see if you can get the venue, drinks, food or raffle prizes for nothing.
