Huarango forest used to be common in the desert surrounding the Peruvian city of Ica, capturing seasonal floodwaters and making the desert bloom. Now 98% of the forest is gone - cut down and turned to charcoal for use in the city. We are working not only to reintroduce the Huarango tree, but to change public perceptions as to its importance. This gift would help schoolchildren to organise events which demonstrate the true value of the Huarango.
