Kibera in Nairobi is Africa’s largest slum – home to around a million people. The environment of this informal settlement is extremely poor, with much of the site consisting of mounds of refuse. This gift would help purchase two trees to be planted in Kibera by local schoolchildren. The trees – which include Elgon and African olive, parasol trees and Cape mahogany – will offer environmental benefits such as shade, clean air and soil stabilisation, and provide a green sanctuary for children living in this environmentally deprived area.
