Huarango forest used to be common in the desert surrounding the Peruvian city of Ica, capturing seasonal floodwaters and making the desert bloom. Now 98% of the forest is gone - cut down and turned to charcoal for use in the city. This gift would help plant three Huarango trees on the outskirts of Ica in Peru, an area now badly affected by landslides due to the years and years of deforestation. The trees limit the effect of and help to prevent landslides.
