£10k cash boost available to help green Greater London

Calling all community groups, schools & local authorities! Got a great idea for a forestry project but lack the funds to get it off the ground?

We’re very excited to be supporting the TD Green Streets programme this year, in partnership with TD Securities and the Community Forest Trust, which is offering a £10,000 grant to groups or organisations to deliver innovative urban forestry projects; including planting street trees, creating community orchards and establishing new woodlands.

Communities across Greater London, from Bromley to Barnet, are being invited to develop ideas for urban forestry projects, aiming to bring a touch of nature to our towns and cities. The award scheme, which is also being run across Greater Manchester, has the deadline for all applications 31 August 2017, so get your thinking caps on!

Kevin Wigley, Community Forest Trust, said of the programme: “This funding empowers communities to come up with inspired urban greening initiatives that bring a much-needed touch of green to our towns and cities”

“We are really looking forward to seeing the range of ideas that come forward and with the support of TD Securities, can help bring the best to life, benefitting local communities”.

Previous winning projects have included a 4,000 tree new community woodland created on a former landfill site, as well as an innovative ‘food forest’ established in hospital grounds.

Our Chief Executive, David Elliott, said:

“Trees for Cities is delighted to be the lead partner for TD Green Streets in Greater London. As a London-based charity working with local communities to plant trees and green our cities, we are aware of the positive impact that such projects have in London. There is huge appetite and enthusiasm from community groups across the city so we look forward to receiving some fantastic applications.”
