East End Park
East End Park
In March 2009, Trees for Cities and Leeds City Council planted 3,000 whips at East End Park in order to create new areas of urban woodland and screen the park from the railway line that runs behind it. We were assisted in the planting by local volunteers and pupils from Richmond Hill Primary School.
That planting followed our first East End Park in 2007 when, with the help of the local community, we planted 18 large trees to replace those lost the previous year when a freak tornado struck the city.
Working with young people from the local area, 2011promises to be our best year yet – seeing us plant an avenue of sweet chestnut trees along a the main path through the park. Sweet chestnuts can live for 700 years and form magnificent large canopies as well as having a remarkable spiral pattern that forms in the bark.
Trees for Cities relies on donations from individuals in order to deliver projects like the East End Park Project. Please consider supporting our project work by making a donation or buying a community gift.
