Rodley and Calverley

In March 2009, Trees for Cities returned to Rodley to plant 15 large specimen trees including Oak, Birch and Sweet Chestnut. Children from the Froebelian School's environmental club came along to plant shrubs around the trees and take part in fun educational games. We were delighted to be joined on the day by Trees for Cities Patron Melvin Benn, with one of the magnificent Birch trees being planted in celebration of our successful partnership with The Leeds Festival.
The trees will enhance existing woodland created in 2008 when, despite poor weather, we were joined by eager volunteers to plant 4,500 whips including Oak, Birch and Hawthorn. As this woodland becomes established it will form a natural barrier to the busy road opposite, not to mention provide a valuable habitat for urban wildlife.
In 2008 we also planted at Victoria Park in Calverley, where Hornbeam and Lime trees now form a spectacular avenue running through the park.
Trees for Cities relies on donations from individuals in order to deliver projects like these. Please consider supporting our project work by making a donation or buying a community gift.
