London
Trees for London was established in 1993 as an independent charity "to advance the education of the public in the appreciation of trees and their amenity value; and in the furtherance of this, the protection and planting of trees particularly in inner city areas."
In 2003 although we changed the name of the charity to Trees for Cities our work in London has continued to grow.
We undertake a range of projects across London which include:
- Street Trees – Future Great Trees of London, Mayor of London Street Trees, Newham Street Trees
- Edible spaces – East London Handicap Adventure Playground, Glamis Adventure Playground, Havelock Primary School, Manorfield Primary School, and Rotherfield Primary School
- Woodlands – Birchmere Park, Goodmayes Park
- Community Gardens and Parks – Clapham Common, Ruskin Park and St Leonard’s Priory
- Estates – Glamis West Estate and Heron Court
Although some parts of London benefit from a rich Victorian legacy of parks and street trees, other areas are desperately lacking in green space. Trees for Cities' work aims to improve the quality of life for everyone that lives and works in London. Throughout our work we place special emphasis on the involvement of local people, especially the younger generations and those from ethnic minority backgrounds.
