Featherstone High School

Many schools in London have very limited outdoor green spaces for education or recreation. Featherstone High School in Southall is working with Trees for Cities to transform a derelict area of green space into a productive and educational garden with outdoor teaching facilities.

Having created a master plan through consultation with students and staff, and created much of the garden structure, this final phase of the project will see the completion of a curriculum based planting plan. The project will have a strong focus on sustainability issues such as locally grown food and composting, however all departments within the school have identified uses for the area, particularly as an outdoor learning space. Students will be encouraged to take responsibility for their areas of the garden through consultation and gardening workshops.

This project is supported by Featherstone High School, Goldman Sachs, the London Trees and Woodland Grants Scheme (Forestry Commission), Capital Growth and the YMCA. Trees for Cities relies on donations from individuals in order to deliver projects like the Featherstone High School Project. We are continuing with fundraising activities and if you would like to donate specifically to this project, go to justgiving.com/featherstoneschool

“Trees are a luxury for all of us and we need this luxury for our health, mind and soul. Places become sad when there is no green, no life present. Trees balance our lives. I am happy to support Trees for Cities with all my heart.”
