Brent Street Trees

This project is running from December 2011 – March 2012

We plan to plant 40 new street trees

We have been working in partnership with the London Borough of Brent for many years to make a positive impact on some of the most industrialised areas.

This year we are revisiting Park Royal to plant approximately 40 new street trees, capable of thriving in a heavily polluted environment such as limes and London Planes.

Street trees play a vital role in greening the urban jungle. Particularly in industrial areas or parts where green space is minimal; street trees provide corridors for wildlife to move in search of food and habitat and pump pollutants out of the air. Trees in the street can provide a barrier against noise pollution, raise the value of property and regulate temperature. A tree outside your window provides a connection with nature, marking the seasons and having a positive impact on stress.

Trees for Cities will carefully select sites and species appropriate for the area following the 'right tree right place principle'. The planting will be celebrated by a street ceremony with residents and local businesses. Trees for Cities will continue to maintain the trees for three summers to ensure they establish and are always at the end of a phone if a local resident spots a problem.

This project is supported by Defra Big Tree Plant, Kia and London Borough of Brent.

“Trees are a luxury for all of us and we need this luxury for our health, mind and soul. Places become sad when there is no green, no life present. Trees balance our lives. I am happy to support Trees for Cities with all my heart.”
