Riverside, Forgefield and Woodchurch Court

Riverside, Forgefield and Woodchurch Court

Riverside, Forgefield and Woodchurch Courts all form part of a residential estate owned by Affinity Sutton in Bromley. The outside areas are dominated by large expanses of tarmac and paving, grass lawns and very little useable community space. The front facing grass areas recently received new shrub beds and some tree planting, but their proximity to the road makes them unsuitable for play or recreation in general.

Trees for Cities aims to beautify the estate through a programme of landscaping and tree planting, adding colour and softening the existing exterior of the buildings and bringing a sense of design and cohesion.

The new plans, currently under consultation, will incorporate a variety of interesting new trees, community growing areas and natural play spaces for families. Residents will be actively involved in the process through to the planting due to take place in November 2010.

This project is supported by Affinity Sutton, the London Tree and Woodland Grant Scheme (Forestry Commission), Capital Growth, The Esmee Fairburn Foundation and the City Bridge Trust.

“Trees are a luxury for all of us and we need this luxury for our health, mind and soul. Places become sad when there is no green, no life present. Trees balance our lives. I am happy to support Trees for Cities with all my heart.”
