Ladybarn Park

In December 2010 volunteers braved the snow to carry out much needed woodland management in Ladybarn Park. We thinned the twelve year woodland, removing a number of birch and alder – pioneer species which have created the conditions for oak and other varied woodland trees to now be planted. We returned the resulting woodchip to the woodland floor and built habitat piles for urban wildlife. Finally we planted 300 new whips to diversify the age and species in the wood with native oak, hawthorn, blackthorn and wild cherry.

This project was funded by Barclays, youth volunteering organisation vinvolved, and donations from members of the public. We would like to thank all the Barclays staff, local students and the Friends of Ladybarn Park who volunteered their time and made this project a great success.

Previously we have planted a community orchard at Ladybarn Park, and we are now trying to raise funds to plant an edible hedgerow between the park and a neighbouring primary school.
Please consider supporting our project work by making a donation or buying a community gift.

“Trees are a luxury for all of us and we need this luxury for our health, mind and soul. Places become sad when there is no green, no life present. Trees balance our lives. I am happy to support Trees for Cities with all my heart.”
