Southcote Wet Woodland

Black poplar is one of the UK's most endangered trees, with around 5,000 left in the entire country.  Thanks to Reading-based IT company Westcoast, Trees for Cities and Reading council will be planting 200 of these endangered trees to transform a disused area on the edge of Southcote allotments into a new wet woodland nature reserve.

The edge of the site is too wet for use as allotments, but is perfect for black poplars and 800 other damp-loving trees. You can read more about the black poplar in the native tree section of our website.

Trees for Cities relies on donations from individuals in order to deliver our Reading projects. Please consider supporting our project work by making a donation or buying a community gift.

“Trees are a luxury for all of us and we need this luxury for our health, mind and soul. Places become sad when there is no green, no life present. Trees balance our lives. I am happy to support Trees for Cities with all my heart.”
