Norfolk Community Primary School
Sheffield United star Jamie Ward joined youngsters at Norfolk Community Primary School, helping plant a new orchard on school grounds in March 2010. Children at the school were delighted that Jamie was able to lend a hand with the tree planting.
The fruiting trees and shrubs – including raspberry, hazel, mulberry and blackcurrant – will add a new dimension to the school allotment area and encourage children’s passion for healthy, locally grown food.
Other trees planted on the day included a row of native birch and alder that will screen the school from a new high-rise building development, and large feature Ginkgo trees – a wonderful ‘living fossil’ tree species that has remained unchanged since the time of the dinosaurs.
