A very rare tree for the British Isles and a beautiful specimen. Introduced from North America and probably planted some two hundred years ago as part of the estate of Charlton House, this tree is one of a few of its kind in the country.

Travel

Charlton British Rail; bus routes 53, 54, 380, 422.

Walking Directions

Turn right out of Charlton Station and proceed uphill along Charlton Church Street. At the top, the road splits briefly. Take the right hand fork into Charlton Road. Almost immediately cross over Charlton Road to enter Charlton Park by the entrance opposite the telephone box. Continue on this path past Charlton House. Take the right hand path branch behind Charlton House. Cross the lawn and go up the three or four steps on to the paved path again. At this point the Nettle Tree is about 20 metres directly in front of you.

15 minutes by foot from Charlton Station.
