Wilmott Park 2007/08

Wilmott Park 2007/08
We were delighted that HSBC were able to offer a third years support for tree planting in Bristol, which enabled us to support another large-scale tree planting project in partnership with Bristol City Council. This year the focus was on planting some much-needed trees in the Hartcliffe area of South Bristol.
Wilmott Park is a huge area of open space split in to four sections through the middle of Hartcliffe. The Council identified the park as somewhere that would really benefit from increased tree cover. It is well-used by the local community, serving residents who live on the perimeter of the site, the Wilmott Park Bowling Club, three local schools and many people who simply pass through the area.
Now, thanks to over a hundred volunteers, which took part in a planting day in February 2008, the park has over 70 new trees, including an avenue of Lime trees, Ash trees to provide shade by the recently created ‘bandstand’ area and Beech hedgerow, which will screen fencing and provide vital urban wildlife habitat.
Darren Jones, Wilmott Park Keeper commented: "It was a great day and a good opportunity for the residents to get together, have fun, and at the same time improve their local park."
