Fundraising is a great activity to get involved with, you get to help raise money for a worthy cause and you will have fun doing it. You don't have to take our word for it, take a look at why our previous supports chose to fundraise for us and their thoughts on the events.

Charlotte - rans the London Marathon in 2013 for Trees for Cities

"Running my 9th marathon in London for Trees for Cities was an amazing feeling! It was a fantastic race and knowing in the back of my mind that I can contribute to keeping our cities green for all runners as well as non runners is a great feeling."

David does Paris - our supporter David Campbell ran the Paris Marathon for Trees for Cities on 7 April 2013.

"Running through central Paris with 50,000 other runners was amazing. Starting on the Champs Elysees, you take in the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and the banks of the Seine. It's basically hardcore sightseeing! The locals even came out to cheer us on.

I chose to sponsor Trees for Cities because trees are vital to creating healthy, livable cities in the future. Trees for Cities work with schools to teach inner city children about the importance of the environment, something I think is very important in today's world."

Our top Tree-Athlon fundraiser - Abigail tells us why she got involed:

I am Abigail Rose and I was the top fundraiser at the London Tree-Athlon 2012. I got to know the charity when I started helping out at some of their planting days, which are fun days were you can get involved, plant trees and do your bit for the environment.

I am quite a keen runner and run for my county, so when I heard that Trees for Cities organised an event called the Tree-Athlon I was intrigued to join in. I set up a Just Giving site and sent an email to everyone I knew with the link. In the first couple of weeks I had already raised over £100 and this carried on each week. Raising money over the computer was a quick and easy way to get sponsors and I recommend that if you want to collect money you use this method. Just send the link to as many people as you know.

A week after the race I got a phone call saying that I had raised the most. I was so thrilled and I got some special prizes like a tree dedicated to myself and a free spa trip. I recommend everyone to get involved in planting days and all of the other brilliant events the charity organises.

“What’s great about Trees for Cities is that their work is as much about people as it is about trees”
