New Trees for Burbank Estate
About this project
Trees for Cities is working with Hartlepool Borough Council, Thirteen, Tees Community Forest, Treeconomics, the Woodland Trust and local residents on a large-scale greening project of the Burbank Estate.
The project aims to plant over 100 new trees and may be spread over a few years.
This planting location is part of the multi-partner Tree Equity for Hartlepool project — a UK-first using a town-wide approach to plant trees where they can make the biggest difference.
We are currently seeking feedback on the proposed planting design before plans are finalised. We want to hear from you!
Consultation closes: Saturday 23rd January 2027
Why are we planting trees here?
- Burbank Estate has been identified by local residents as a priority location for tree planting, with a low Tree Equity score
- The Tree Equity for Hartlepool project prioritises planting in areas where trees can have the greatest impact on people, places and the environment
- New trees can provide more shade, greener surroundings and benefits for local wildlife
What are we proposing?
To improve the green space at Burbank Estate for the local community, we are proposing:
- New standard trees (at least 1.8m tall and 8–12 years old) planted near footpaths and around the edges of the estate
- Tree planting designed to provide more shade and cooling during warmer weather
- Ornamental tree species that will add colour, interest and seasonal variation throughout the year
- New trees that support wildlife and create healthier local habitats
- Planting designed to retain open space for recreation, allow access for maintenance, and maintain clear sightlines across the estate
Have your say
We are now running a consultation to seek community feedback before plans are finalised.
Planting trees on Burbank Estate may need to be completed over a few years. We are seeking opinions on where the first 40 trees should go. We’d also like your opinion on the designs.
Please leave any feedback you might have on the form below. You can also contact us via email at HartlepoolEngagement@treesforcities.org.
This form will close on Saturday 23rd January 2027.
