New Orchard in Avenue Park
Trees for Cities is working with Hounslow Council to plant an orchard in Avenue Park. This will provide a delicious annual harvest of fruits and nuts for the community and provide rich habitat for wildlife.
We are currently seeking feedback on the proposed planting design before plans are finalised. We want to hear from you!

Why are we planting here?
This project builds on wider improvement plans for Avenue Park, where Hounslow Council, local groups and national partners have been working together to understand community priorities for the park and make changes.
Planting an orchard of edible fruit and nut trees aims to:
- Provide food for the community.
- Create opportunities for local groups to continue their work with the area's residents through caring for and harvesting the fruit trees.
- Encourage healthier green spaces for people and wildlife!
What are we planting?
We are planning to plant an estimated 38 trees and 15 bushes, in the north of Avenue Park near The Parkway. This will include a variety of fruits for picking and eating fresh, cooking and preserving in jams or chutneys.
New trees are most vulnerable soon after planting, so Trees for Cities are committed to watering and caring for them for 3 years after planting, after which their care is handed over to Hounslow Council.

We are now running a community consultation to seek feedback before plans are finalised. We would like to identify resident priorities and preferences around the species selection of the trees and greening features planned for Avenue Park.

Growing a Community in East London
In 2013, we used an unused and unloved patch of land in Tower Hamlets to plant an orchard for the thousands of residents who live there - now known as Swedenborg Orchard and run by dedicated community members.
